St. Patrick’s Nursery

Hello and welcome to St Patrick’s Nursery. We will be delighted to welcome you and your child into our school family.

At St. Patrick’s nursery we are passionate about providing high quality early education that gives children a strong foundation for future learning.

We provide a welcoming learning environment, full of opportunities for children to explore, practice and develop new skills through play.

We value warm working relationships with parents and carers, so that together we can support children as they learn and develop.

We provide early education for children aged 3-4 years old.

Applying for a Place

We offer free 15 hours early education places for 3- and 4-year olds

Parents can apply for a place at any time during the school year.

Parents do not have to wait until their child is two or three to apply, many of our parents register their children before their first birthday.

Children are admitted in September and in January after they have had their 3rd Birthday.

To register your child for a school place please ring or email the school office on 01902 556 451 & [email protected]

The Structure of Nursery Sessions

Welcome Time

At the start of the session nursery staff welcome the children and provide opportunities for discussion, and activities including sharing books, mark making, name writing and counting.

Focus Time

During this time plan children take part in specific activities that will support their learning.

Free Flow

During this time children have the opportunity to learn inside and outside. They will learn how to make their own choices and to play with resources that have been provided by staff.  This time is a valuable opportunity for children to practice skills they have learnt during their focus time and to develop the characteristics of effective learning with the help of staff.

Literacy Time

This session is an important part of the nursery day when children develop their literacy skills and an interest in books and reading.

Snack Time

All children are entitled a free milk in nursery & all children are offered a piece of fruit each day.

Curriculum

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework which was revised in 2020. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old.

The EYFS sets out:

  • The legal welfare requirements that everyone must follow to keep your child safe and promote their welfare
  • The 7 areas of learning and development which guide professionals’ engagement with your child’s play and activities as they learn new skills and knowledge
  • Assessments that will tell you about your child’s progress through the EYFS
  • Expected levels that your child should reach at age 5, usually the end of the reception year

Learning and Development

Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside. Children will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of Learning and Development.

Prime Areas:

  • Communication and language;
  • Physical development; and
  • Personal, social and emotional development.

The Specific Areas:

  • Literacy;
  • Mathematics;
  • Understanding the world; and
  • Expressive arts and design.
